I wasn't able to find much substantive information about this artist, but I am almost certain his name is a nom de plume (or would that be brush?) . I've got a very good imagination, but I could never come up with a name like Stuyvesant Van Veen.

I was a tot when these pieces were created. The 50s were an entirely different era in American history. A time when people believed in the integrity of their leaders and sexuality was barely ever addressed in any regard. Which make these drawings all the more remarkable for the flagrantly seductive natures of the figures represented.

Sex has always been used to sell things. It may have been more covertly done in that bygone time, but it was still recognized as a tool for convincing customers to buy things they didn't need like ties and perfume.

Was it a more innocent time or were we just more likely to be gullible, accepting of the status quo, and blissfully absent-minded about what was going on around us? If I had a time machine I can assure you the time I would be least likely to want to visit is the maddeningly unaware 50s.

Manimal Theater: Heavier than . . .

"Heavier than . . .", a play by Steve Yockey, is a mythical mash-up concerning a relationship between Asterius, the minotaur, and Icarus, he of melting wings fame. Icarus is obsessed with Asterius and, by the looks of the horned fellow, who can blame him for his attraction?

Nick Ballard as the minotaur, Asterius.

The play was produced at Theater @ Boston Court this past summer with the eye-catching Nick Ballard playing Asterius.

Perhaps, there will be future mountings of this work and some of us will get the chance to take in a hunky minotaur stomping around stage. Of course, there's no guarantee that future Asterius portrayers will be as fetching as Mr. Ballard.

Manimal TF Dept.: Ben 10's Stud Forms

I remember watching an episode of the animated series "Ben 10" when it first showed up and not thinking much of it. Obviously, over the course of its run on Cartoon Network the producers decided to add some meat to the show's bones and newer versions "Alien Force" and "Ultimate Alien" have appeared. The alien concept enables Ben to transform into some genuinely interesting manimals.

Each new version does what most things in this insanely commercial culture do: escalate in size and power. I fully expect the next generation will be "Ultimate Super Big Gulp Alien Force X". I don't know that these hyper-expanded forms of the Alien Force crew make the show any more watchable for most guys, but I find it interesting that in past episodes of the show Ben has become some very hard-ass characters including a tigerman named "Rath" who comes off like a cross between Tony The Tiger and Hulk Hogan and is a damn sight sexier than either of them.

Then there is the reptilian "Humungousaur" . . .

. . . and a big red brute, "Fourarms", who naturally is very adept with his four huge arms.

If this show had been on when I was 7 years old and thought ten year olds were way more "with it" than I was I probably would have been a big fan. Now I just imagine how cool this concept would be if it was "Ben 25" and he was a really sexy gay morpher.

You will find excellent recent posts about archers, "Wielders of Bows and Arrows", and the always fascinating Pan and his lusty followers, the satyrs, "Guardians of The Sacred Fountain: Part 2".

And, if that isn't good enough, if you haven't ever seen it there is Brad Parker's wonderful "Jason" erotic comic wherein the sexy hero encounters a very hot satyr dude and they get to know each other very, very well.

"Warriors of Fantasy" is one of the best blogs of its kind and well worth a visit.

Joe Jusko has created some outstanding art for the E. R. Burrough's series "Warlord of Mars" and much of it features the green-skinned four-armed Martian giants known as Barsoomians.

They certainly are something puny humans would have a hard time besting in a one-on-one fight. Yet, Burroughs' character, John Carter, takes them on like the fantasy hero he is.

I hope that after the film of "John Carter" is released next March we start getting some fan fiction and art devoted to Barsoomian-Human inter-species intimacy. Sex with four large muscular arms to hold you and play with you sounds incredibly titillating.

Also featured are pages from and announcements for new Class Comics projects. It looks like there are many cool new things in the works but, unfortunately, not a sign of Space Cadet 2. I hope this doesn't mean that like Brothers To Dragons, we won't ever see the conclusion to this "series". That would be a major disappointment, but it wouldn't be the first time a comic I liked wasn't finished due to a lack of sales and popularity. Having esoteric taste can be a bane or a boon.
