It's Faun and Fae Friday

Maybe I should call it Flora and Fauna Friday. Anyway, mixed in with other posts today will be a few pics of fauns and faeries.

Fauns were the followers of the god Faunus and differ from Satyrs in that they are more human appearing. But that isn't always the case. In classic Greco-Roman statuary fauns often resemble a young man with curly hair, a lithely muscular build, and a small goat tail. While in C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" the faun, Mr. Tumnus, closely resembles what many of us think of as a satyr and the satyrs have more goat-like countenances. Just what a satyr looks like is very open to interpretation. Fauns, on the other hand, are always boyish and never leering or lascivious. They are earth spirits of the forest, field and meadow who are wild and carefree, but less brazenly sexual.

Faeries, as far as this blog is concerned, are small magical males with insectoid wings. Pixies, sprites and imps fall into this category, too.
