Rodney Dangerfield was one man who made his name and his fortune getting laughed at. His public persona was that of the ultimate pathetic loser and victim. He was proof that even a negative pose can produce positive results. We live in a consistently inconsistent and interesting world and Dangerfield was a strong example of how to succeed at playing the poorest and sorriest soul. He's been gone quite a while now, but I still find his stand-up material inspired.
Here is one minor gem to ponder:
My family was so poor that if I hadn't been born a boy,
I wouldn't have had anything to play with.
